This weekend will be the final run for a number of Sheridan High School Track and Field seniors, and another one will run again at the college level.
Nathan Fitzpatrick has signed his letter of intent (LOI) to continue on athletically at Black Hills State University.
At last week’s 4A Boys East Regional Track meet, Fitzpatrick was 4th in the 400 meter dash and was a part of both the 4 by 800 meter relay team and the sprint medley relay team, which finished in 2nd.
Last year he was part of the 4A boys state champion 4 by 400 meter relay team.
He says he’s been participating in track and field since 6th grade, and explains why he chose Black Hills State and why he enjoys the sport.
“It’s just close enough where I can still come home if I have to, but don’t feel obligated to and then the program is a really good program, and it’s a big outdoor community just like Sheridan, so it’s kind of like a second home basically. It’s just a great family sport and it’s an individual but a team sport, and when you get a bunch of friends that you run with for 7 years, and get to do 4 more with a couple of them, it’s just a great feeling.”
Fitzpatrick adds he had also talked to the University of Wyoming, as well as Briar Cliff University in SIoux City, Iowa and Dickinson State in North Dakota.
He says he wants to major in math education.
