Duane Roger Wohlbrandt
Goodbye for Now
Duane Roger Wohlbrandt, a lifelong resident of Buffalo, Wyoming, passed away on October 2, 2026, at the age of 68. He was born on June 2, 1958, in Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, to Leroy “Wally” and Shirley Kumor Wohlbrandt.
Duane faced challenges throughout his life that might have defeated many people, but he met them with incredible courage and quiet perseverance. When he fell or was knocked down, he got up again—and again—without complaint or self-pity. He wanted to do things that might have seemed out of reach, and he did not give up. His own struggles gave him great empathy for others facing difficulties. He loved children and was kind and patient with animals.
Duane attended school in Buffalo, graduating from Buffalo High School with the class of 1977. He was a member of the school’s FFA chapter and showed a steer from the family ranch at the Johnson County Fair. He also competed with other projects, one of which went on to the State Fair.
In his teenage years, Duane, a leftie, loved practicing his baseball pitching. He rode his gasoline-powered minibike with joy and abandon and enjoyed working in the ranch shop, welding and helping repair equipment. He was always game for gathering and splitting firewood and enjoyed target shooting with both pistol and rifle.
After high school, Duane attended vocational school in Cheyenne. He held various jobs around Buffalo and worked on the family ranch. He had a talent for small-engine repair and operated his own lawnmower repair business.
Duane loved hunting and fishing in the Bighorn Mountains and visiting Yellowstone National Park with his family. He enjoyed family gatherings and the feasts and festivities that came with those good times. Comedy movies and television delighted him, and he had a quick sense of humor and a joyous laugh.
The greatest strength in Duane’s life came through his genuine faith in Jesus. He enjoyed volunteering at Bighorn Baptist Church. His greatest joy and blessing on Earth was his beloved wife, Barb, who brought him true happiness and endless love and meant all the world to him. God truly brought them together. Duane and Barb were married on January 4, 2004, in Buffalo, Wyoming.
On November 8, 2013, Duane was admitted to Amie Holt Care Center where he lived for the remainder of his life.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents; his maternal grandparents, John and Amy Kumor; his paternal grandparents, Philip Henry and Irma Wohlbrandt; many aunts and uncles; and several cousins on both sides of the family.
He is survived by his wife, Barb; his brothers, John (Chris) and Phil (Tani); his sister, Lorena; and four nieces and their spouses and children.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 1 to 9 p.m. at Harness Funeral Home. A service will take place on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 10 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Willow Grove Cemetery, where Duane will be laid to rest in the family plot. A meal will follow at Calvary Chapel. Mike Leibee of Calvary Chapel will lead the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Chapel in remembrance of Duane, a kind and courageous man whose faith, laughter, and love will remain with the family he leaves behind for a while. Goodbye for now, Duane.
