David Paul Rice, 55, passed away on May 2, 2026, at his home in Billings, Montana, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and deep connection with those fortunate enough to know him.

David was born on July 12, 1970, in Mesa, Arizona, to Richard and Annette Rice. He entered the world as a pleasant surprise and quickly became a bright and joyful presence in the lives of his family.

He spent his school years in the Sheridan School District and went on to earn his undergraduate degree in Health and Wellness Education from Montana State University Billings, later completing his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Wyoming. David dedicated his career to education as a physical education teacher and coach, making a lasting impact on countless students. He coached in Billings at Skyview and in Sheridan, sharing not only his knowledge but his enthusiasm for life and competition.

A passionate athlete, David loved wrestling and football, competing in high school and carrying that competitive spirit throughout his life. He also found great joy on the golf course and in any opportunity for friendly competition.

David was known for his gregarious nature and his generous, compassionate heart. He had a gift for bringing people together and made it his mission to ensure that those around him were having a good time.

Above all, David was a devoted father to his son, Isaiah, of Phoenix, Arizona. Becoming a father was a long-held dream, and he was immensely proud of his son. His love for his family was the foundation of his life, closely followed by the deep friendships he cherished. He was also a devoted son, sharing a special bond with his mother.

David was preceded in death by his nephew, Michael “Craig” Rice.

He is survived by his parents, Richard and Annette Rice; his brother, Michael (Theresa) Rice of Sheridan, Wyoming; his sister, Crystal (Steven) Rice Thompson of Silesia, Montana; his son, Isaiah Rice of Phoenix, Arizona; and his extended family, Nathan (Michaela) Sanders of Casper, Wyoming; Alex Rice of Denver, Colorado; Adam (Sarah) Morse of Casper, Wyoming; and Emma (Rob) Rice Johnson of Sheridan, Wyoming.

Funeral services will be held on May 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Sheridan, Wyoming, with a reception to follow at Kane Funeral Home. Burial will follow the reception.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his warmth, his laughter, and the way he loved so fully.
