Sherry Swanner
Sherry Yvonne Swanner, 85, went home to be with her Lord on March 1, 2026. She was born on March 16, 1940, in San Antonio, TX, to Annie Gertrude and Marlin Marcus Mayfield. She was the eldest of three children, and she mothered her sister Charlotte “Molly” and brother Marcus “Buddy” all their lives.
As a freshman in high school, her family moved from San Antonio to Floresville, TX, where she met the love of her life, Jimmy Swanner. He joined the Navy after graduation and was stationed in California. They wrote to each other faithfully while they were apart. She moved back to San Antonio and graduated from Burbank High School in 1958. When Jimmy came home on leave, they were married on June 6, 1958. They lived in San Antonio and raised three children. In 1970, the family moved down to the Gulf Coast and eventually settled in Aransas Pass.
Sherry worked as a cashier at the Family Center grocery store in Port Arkansas for many years when she was loved by all who met her.
In the early 1980s, when her sister moved to Wyoming, she came to visit and fell in love with the mountains. In 1984, she finally got her dream and was able to move to Sheridan with her husband. She worked at the back desk at the YMCA for nearly 17 years when she always greeted everyone with a smile and a towel. It was there that she affectionately became known as Miss Sherry.
Sherry’s ultimate pleasure in life was her faith and her family. She always made sure anyone that came to her house was well-fed and got a hug. She loved all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with all her heart and soul, and prayed daily for them all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, and nephew Brian and Timothy Lindley.
She is survived by her children Kimberly (Phillip) Cummins of Story, WY, Steven (Carrie) Swanner and Kevin (Kari) Swanner of Sheridan, WY; her grandchildren, Joshua (Becky) Cummins, Benjamin (Gail) Cummins, Zachary (Amanda) Cummins, Matthew (Cassidie) Cummins, Beth Ann Malkemes, Brianna Swanner, and Nathan (Kyllisha) Swanner; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life is at 10:00 A.M., Friday, March 13, 2026, at Bethesda Worship Center. A reception will follow after the service. Online condolences may be made to www.sheridanfuneral.com. Arrangements are under the care of Sheridan Funeral Home.

I am very saddened of her passing. Jimmie worked for me for several years and Sherry was always a positive force behind him. Rest in peace friend.
