Erwin Millard Doss
Erwin Millard Doss (91) passed away Friday June13, 2025 at the VA Medical Center Mountain View Living. Erwin was born November 23, 1933, in Sheridan, Wyoming to Harrison (Harry) and Elise Doss. He joined half-sisters Louella Marguerite and Fredonia May, and stepbrothers Orvil and CL Jones and a stepsister.
Erwin attended grade school at the old Coffeen School. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1953.
Erwin was very proud of the fact that he was on the State Champion football team in 1952 along with Scotty Scott.
Erwin married Sue Thomas in Texas. They had one son, Anthony. They divorced.
He married Marilyn Maxwell George in Sept of 1987.
In March of 1954, Erwin joined the Army. He was stationed in Germany as a Truck Driver. He was discharged from the Army in March 1956.
After the Army he went to work for Kendrick Cattle Company building fence. He decided that that was not what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.
In December of 1958 he joined the Air Force and was a crew chief on B52 Bombers. During his Air Force career he was stationed at Walker AFB in New Mexico, Keesler AFB in Mississippi, Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota, Seymore Johnson AFB in North Carolina, Yakota AB in Japan, Grand Forks AFB in North Dakota, 20th TASSQ Danang Vietnam, and Castle AFB in California. He retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergent on January 31, 1975.
After his retirement from the Air Force, he went to work for the VA in Sheridan as a cook. After 13 years, he retired from the VA.
Erwin enjoyed fishing and riding 4 wheelers in the Big Horns with Marilyn and friends Kenny and Donna Pyle. The four of them also went to several NASCAR races together.
Erwin also enjoyed woodworking and going to auctions.
Erwin and Marilyn wintered in Yuma, Arizona and El Central, CA. They spent many summers in their camper on the Big Horns.
Erwin is survived by his wife Marilyn; Son Anthony Doss and his wife Deborah of Pampa, TX; grandson Brian Doss of Stinnett, TX; granddaughter Mindy Lewis and her husband Michael of Pampa, TX; great-granddaughters Marrisa Acosta and Danica Acosta; great-grandsons Karson Doss and Bently Lewis. Erwin is also survived by stepson Gary Geroge and his wife Renee of Castle Rock, Colorado; stepdaughter Beth Burtis and her husband Larry of Sheridan; step grandchildren Jessica Taylor and her partner Travis Egan of Redmond, WA and Kyle Taylor and his wife Shay of Springfield, OR; step great-grandchildren Hailey Egan, Treigh Egan and Ameliya Taylor.
He is predeceased by his parents, his half-sisters, his stepbrothers and stepsister, and step granddaughter Rachel Bailey George.
Burial will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD with military honors.
