Robert Herzog

A celebration of life for Robert L. “Bob” Herzog, a 91-year-old Buffalo resident who passed away Saturday at his home in Buffalo, will be held by his family at a later date.  Donations in Robert’s memory may be made to the Buffalo Senior Center at 671 W. Fetterman in Buffalo, Wyoming 82834 or the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation at 5705 Grant Creek Rd, Missoula, MT 59808. 

Robert Lee Herzog was born on January 20, 1934, in Buffalo, Wyoming to Fred and Mary Herzog, the 5th of seven children.  The family worked on various farms around Ucross until they moved to Buffalo in 1942 where they leased the Works ranch until 1947 when they moved into Buffalo.  He grew up and went to school in Buffalo and graduated from Johnson County High School with the class of 1952.  On December 27 of that year, he was married to Joan Kostenbauer, and they made their home in Buffalo. After high school, he attended the University of Wyoming, where he graduated in 1956 with a degree in Civil Engineering. In 1961, they moved to Rawlins, Wyoming, where Robert was Resident Engineer for the State Highway Department. In 1967, they moved to Basin, Wyoming, where Robert was District Engineer for 30 years.  In 1998, they moved back to Buffalo, where they began renovation on the Campbell Family Home on Gatchell Street.  Joan passed away in December 2020 and Robert continued living in Buffalo until his death.

He enjoyed rock hounding, hunting, fishing, crossword puzzles, sudoku puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with family.

Robert was a past member of the Lions, the Elks and the Eagles clubs

He is survived by one son, Larry Herzog and his wife Shannon of Buffalo; one daughter Robynn Terry of Basin, Wyoming; one sister Dorothy Kimball of Casper, Wyoming; one brother David Herzog and his wife Linda of Hoboken, Georgia;  four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his son Tom Herzog, three sisters and one brother.
