David was born in Sheridan, Wyoming on March 7, 1943, to Joseph and Agnes Legerski. David was the youngest of their three sons (Robert, William, David). He attended school in Monarch, while growing up in the countryside around Kleenburn and Acme. After his family moved to Sheridan, he went to Central Junior High School and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1961. His experiences and love for the outdoors led him to study Wildlife Management at Sheridan Community College.
David (also known as Dave to many), was a kind-hearted and generous man who earned the respect and gratitude of those who knew him. Dependable and dedicated, he was known for the pride and commitment he put into everything he did. He had old-fashioned values and a witty sense of humor, with a knack for fixing things with his mechanical skills. Dave’s outdoor skills made for exciting adventures throughout his life. He loved living life in the country surrounding Acme/Kleenburn, the Big Horn mountains, and the Sheridan area. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing and chasing game, boating and water-skiing, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, and exploring. He really enjoyed seeing people out and about around town, and hearing about their activities. Dave always took the time to call or visit on birthdays and holidays. He spent countless hours hunting and fishing with his sons, uncles and friends. His uplifting greeting, and snappy attitude would brighten one’s day. He always wished the best for us in life!
In the early 70s, Dave raced snow machines, placing first in many Cross Country races with the BearLodge Snowmobile Association, as well as Stock Class racing in Miles City, Montana. He spent countless hours building stock cars with friends to see them have 20 minutes of fame. He even enjoyed watching the local dirt track races later in life, and he was avid about watching NASCAR, the Denver Broncos, and hunting and fishing shows.
As a younger man Dave had a few jobs, as a station hand, a mechanic, and he went on to become parts manager at Sheridan Agri Center for quite a number of years. He sold cars for 20 years for Sheridan Toyota, Sheridan Motors, Buffalo Motors, and Hammer’s Chevrolet and he retired in 2006. He enjoyed cars and trucks all of his life, and always kept a spotless ride in his garage! 🙂
Dave had much pride and joy in his family, they were his most valuable connections, right along with his friends. In April of 1965, Dave married Linda Marshall, and had two children, Matthew and Christine (Tina) Legerski. Later in life, he married Pamela Dietrich and they had a son, Nicholas Legerski. Nick and his wife Ashley have two sons, Parker and Pierce, Dave’s grandkids!
Dave joins his parents in everlasting life. We take comfort in believing that he is free and happy, with the sun on his face and fishing pole in hand. He is survived by his sons, Matt Legerski (Susan Schild) of Flagstaff, AZ, Nicholas Legerski, (Ashley, Parker and Pierce), of Buffalo, and his daughter, Christine Legerski, Sheridan. His brothers, Robert Legerski (Gladys) and Bill Legerski (Shirley), also of Sheridan. He has attended many birthdays, graduations, and weddings of his nieces and nephews.
Please join us in celebrating his life at 2PM on Saturday, November 9th, 2024 at Kane Funeral Home with a dessert reception to follow at Kane Reception Hall. In Dave’s memory, donations can be given to any charity of your choice.

Dave was such a nice man. He sold me a truck years ago at Hammers. Always kind and always made time to say hello when he saw you. I know he will be missed by many. Thinking of you all.
