A 58-year-old Sheridan man was sentenced in Fourth Judicial District Court Tuesday on multiple charges of drug distribution. Sheridan Media’ Ron Richter has the details.

Drug Dealer Sentenced

Last fall, Michael Schutt was arrested and charged with Conspiracy to Deliver a Controlled Substance to a Minor; Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Controlled Substance With Intent to Deliver- Marijuana. Two co-defendants were also charged in the case, Meagan Crone and Donald Brower. The crimes occurred last year on October 3rd and 4th. According to court documents, during a search of Schutt’s home, law enforcement seized approximately a pound of marijuana, various drug paraphernalia items and a large amount of cash.

Schutt, at a change of plea hearing in February, pleaded “guilty” to all three of the charges as part of a plea agreement that was reached with the state. District Court Judge John Fenn, at a sentencing hearing Tuesday, rejected the plea agreement and amended the sentence due to a misunderstanding at the change of plea hearing regarding the amount of time Schutt had served. Judge Fenn sentenced Schutt to a prison sentence of 3 to 6 years for each charge, suspended, in lieu of an 80-day split sentence and three years of supervised probation. The sentences will run concurrent to one another and Schutt was given credit for time served. Schutt must also pay $700 in various court costs and fees.
