Pretrial Conference Held for Man Charged with Aggravated Assault and Battery

A two-day jury remains scheduled for October 14 in Fourth Judicial District Court for Richard Eutsler, who is charged with felony aggravated assault and battery. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

A pretrial conference was held Thursday in District Court where it was determined that 50 prospective jurors would be brought in for the jury selection process at trial. District Court Judge Darci Phillips said that since there are several other cases stacked ahead of Eutsler’s case, the trial date may have to be reset if the other cases scheduled for trial on the same date aren’t resolved by October 1.

According to court documents, On March 11, 2026, the Sheridan Police Department responded to a report of a man threatening another man with a large kitchen knife at a residence on Clarendon Avenue. After assessing the scene and speaking with several eye witnesses to the alleged crime, Eutsler was placed under arrest by law enforcement for threatening another individual with a knife.  Felony aggravated assault and battery is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Also from Thursday’s District Court docket: 40-year-old David Amey pleaded no contest to the charge of felony incest. The State is recommending a capped sentence of 8 to 12 years in prison. The defendant can argue for less prison time or probation at the sentencing hearing.

District Court Judge Ben Kirven ordered that a presentence investigation report be completed and said that a date for sentencing would take place approximately 60 days from the date of the change of plea hearing. Amey’s bond was revoked and he was remanded to the custody of the Sheridan County Detention Center pending sentencing.

According to court documents, the investigation began on April 3, 2024 when the SPD responded to a report of an infant death at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. The child was born premature and died of health complications. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Amey on March 26, 2026. The alleged criminal activity occurred between June 2023 and August 16, 2023.
