SC Professor Talks on Works by Hannah O’Hare Bennett: North, South, East, West: People, Places, and Things

Sheridan College is featuring People, Places and Things, an exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Hannah O’Hare Bennett. The Madison-based artist creates multimedia tapestries using bead weaving, yarn, handmade paper and found materials. 

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Sheridan College Chair for the Visual & Performing Arts Professor Brittney Denham Whisonant said Bennett’s work draws heavily from her experiences living and working in Ecuador, exploring language, cultural diversity, human relationships and the challenges of communicating across cultures.

Bennett describes her series as a celebration of incongruity, imperfect language and unexpected connections. Whisonant, who admits to experiencing a deep emotional reaction to Bennett’s work, describes it as organic, human and a reflection of Bennett’s connection with texture, color, land and people.

The exhibition opened with a free artist talk and reception Sept. 14 and will be on display for the public to view at the Whitney Center For the Arts for the rest of September.
