Plea Change Hearing Held in District Court for Sheridan Woman Charged with Multiple Felonies

A 32-year-old Sheridan woman changed her plea on a number of felony charges at a hearing this week in Fourth Judicial District Court. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

Pursuant to the terms of a plea agreement reached with the State, Kathrine Young pleaded guilty to the following charges; conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and one count of felony theft. She also pleaded no contest to three counts of felony theft. The State is recommending a sentence of 7 to 9 years in prison for each of the charges and to run the sentences concurrent to one another.

The conspiracy charge is the result of an investigation by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation into a methamphetamine distribution ring where Young, between June 6 and June 9, conspired with persons known and unknown to disseminate meth in Sheridan County. The theft charges are from when Young stole jewelry and gift cards from homes while she was an employee of Miracle Housekeeping. District Court Judge Darci Phillips ordered that a presentence investigation report be completed by the Department of Corrections Division of Probation and Parole and scheduled sentencing for December 1 at 9:45 am. Young’s bond was revoked and she was remanded to the custody of the Sheridan County Detention Center pending sentencing.

A 51-year-old Colorado man pleaded guilty to a number of felony charges at a hearing this week in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan. Pursuant to the terms of a plea agreement between the State and the defendant, Scooter Carey pleaded guilty to one count of felony robbery, two counts of felony theft, and one count of felony burglary. Carey’s guilty plea on the robbery charge included an admission of guilt to the State’s habitual offender allegation due to his criminal history.

The State is recommending a prison sentence of 12 to 20 years for the robbery charge, and 8 to 10 years for each of the two felony charges and the burglary charge, and to run the sentences concurrent to one another. District Court Judge Darci Phillips ordered that a presentence investigation report be completed and scheduled sentencing for November 19 at 9:45 am. Carey’s bond was revoked and he was remanded to the custody of the Sheridan County Detention Center pending sentencing.

According to court documents, on September 17, 2025, a report of a stolen 1986 GMC was called into the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office. That same day, the owner of the truck, Brent Ulman, located the vehicle traveling on I-90 and followed the stolen truck until it crashed into a ditch on Upper Prairie Dog Road in Sheridan County. When Ulman approached the vehicle, the suspect, later identified as Scooter Carey, exited the vehicle and proceeded to punch Ulman and slam his leg in the truck door. Carey then stole Ulman’s 2022 GMC truck and a 22-foot trailer and fled the scene.

Carey, also on September 17, stole a generator and burglarized a cabin in the Bighorn National Forest. Carey was identified by the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office with Wal-Mart receipts that were in a backpack that he had left in the stolen 1986 GMC. Carey’s arrest came after the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office were later notified by Park County law enforcement that Carey had been arrested and sentenced to a year in jail for stealing an e-bike in Cody. Carey stole the e-bike the same day all of the crimes occurred in Sheridan County.
