SCSD #2 Board Recognized Several Individuals
There were several recognitions at the Monday, Oct. 6 SCSD#2 Board of Trustees meeting. Kasey Garnhart introduced first year tennis coach Scott Dickey, who coached the winning boy’s tennis team this year.
Garnhart said that “although his tenure has been brief, his impact has been profound.” He added that the high school boy’s tennis team has established as a pinnacle of boy’s high school tennis.

Granhart added that this year was the first boys state tennis champion title since 1985. The team attended the meeting and Dickey introduced them to the board.
Wins included: Boys’ Tennis State Champions; Boys’ Tennis State Champions #1 Doubles, Matt Brown and Eric Venn – Boys’ Tennis State Champions #3 Doubles, Sam Wilcox and Christian Lamen.

SHS Principal Scott Cleland took the podium to present a plaque to SHS history teacher Michael Thomas.
Assistant Superintendent Kristie Garriffa recognized Welding Teacher Clay Christensen, who was the recipient of the 2025 Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence. She said “he doesn’t just teach welding, he ignites careers.”
With this award his program received $50,000. When asked what he planned to use funds for, he said he had a ‘wish list’ of several tools to make his program even better.

Garriffa added this about SCSD#2 schools.
Although she did not attend the meeting, Superintendent Scott Stults mentioned that librarian Ladonna Leibrich was honored with Wyoming Library Association Outstanding Librarian Award.
In his superintendent’s report, Scott Stults talked about homecoming at SHS, and the fall sports that were happening.
He reported that he had the opportunity to talk with Jenna Shim, Dean at University of Wyoming.
He added that they toured the SJHS and SHS to see what Sheridan was doing right for the students.
In the audience comments section, Board Chairman Shane Rader said that those who signed up were concerned about personnel matters, and the board adjourned into executive session to hear the comments.
In other business, the board heard a facilities update from facilities director Troy Decker, one feature that was updated was a slide at Woodland Park School, and he added that the youngsters were waiting in line for them to finish it so they could put it to good use.

The board also heard current school improvement plans from the principals of SJHS, SHS and John C. Schiffer.
Special Services Director Tracy Turk introduced several policies to be approved on first and second reading, one of which was policy IJL.
Rader mentioned that on Wednesday, Oct. 8 from 6 to 7 p.m., at the Sheridan Junior High School cafeteria, there will be an opportunity for staff and community members to share their thoughts, provide feedback and ask questions about Policy IJL, (Library Materials Selection and Access). All are welcome to attend.
