cvannoyThe Clearmont Historic Group will host an ice-cream social, Wednesday, August 11th from 11 am to 2 pm at Branding Iron Park. The social is being held in conjunction with the The Sheridan County Historic Preservation Commission (SCHPC) at noon in the basement of the Clearmont Community Center.
Carrie Edinger, Sheridan Community Land Trust Historical Program Manager & Events Coordinator said that the SCHPC is developing a county-wide preservation plan. They are requesting community members help by filling out a preservation plan survey.
This document will serve as a guide for preservation of the rich history of places and people that make Sheridan County special. The Preservation Plan is intended to guide and inspire protection of the historic resources abundant to Sheridan County.
These resources are a source of community pride and it is vital that the community participate in the creation of the plan vision and goals. Interested parties can attend the upcoming site specific SCHPC meetings, fill out a paper survey and share your opinion and your stories, or go to http://cushingterrel.com/historicsheridan/
There will also be a meeting on Wednesday, September 8th at noon at the Big Horn Women’s Club building.
The Clearmont Historic Group also named Mike Kuzara, who worked as a maintenance tech for Range Telephone covering the Clearmont area for many years as Person of the Month, and Richard Bohlmann, who painted the Patriot Rock, as Artist of the Month for August. July’s honorees were Barbara Carlock, Clearmont Librarian and Bruce Yates, leather artist.
A selection of Bohlmann’s artwork and a small replica telephone pole and an old-style rotary dial phone, as well as Kuzara’s books, Black Eagle Down and Welcome to Hell, Here’s Your Accordion, are on display at the Clearmont Historic Center. Bohlmann also donated a painting to be raffled off with funds going to the Clearmont Historical Center. Price for tickets yet to be determined.
In other news from the Clearmont Historic Group, they held their monthly meeting on July 19, 2021, in Sheridan.
Bruce Yates reported that the second order of bricks to be engraved and placed around the Veteran’s Memorial to honor those who have served.
The newest book by the CHG will be on Passaic, and should be ready to publish this winter. Passaic was a post office and school located north of Leiter toward Montana. Post offices of this era were located in postmasters’ homes. Terrill Foster, who is compiling the information about Passaic, is asking anyone with information on Passaic to call her at 307-758-4430.
