Clearmont is closer to getting a subdivision as of Monday night’s town council meeting. After an executive session, the council voted to approve the purchase of 103 acres of land northeast of town from developer Jason Watts of WW Land Group in Buffalo for the price of $530,000. Clearmont Mayor Chris Schock said they plan to close on the property by December 1.

The proposed subdivision will consist of several parcels between five and 10 acres in size, which will have city water, but the homeowner will be responsible for putting in their own septic.

The land will be annexed into the town and will offer affordable housing options. The council will discuss what restrictions may be put in place at a later date.

In other business, Town Clerk Barbara Pepin swore in Madeline Hutchison as a new Council member, Mayor Schock welcomed her, saying it was nice to have some young people who wanted to serve on the town council.

Shock talked about the TNR event earlier in the month.

He also reported on a panel talk he attended at the Hub last Tuesday night where Prop 1, the property tax initiative was discussed.

Councilman Kaelan Haring reported on the upcoming Clear Creek Recreation District events, the Truck or Treat on Halloween, and the Shop Hop, which will be held Nov. 6-7.

Next regular meeting will be held on November 16 at Town Hall.
