While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Sheridan County Commission Chairman Lonnie Wright encouraged residents to take advantage of the Wyoming Property Tax Refund Program.
Property taxes have increased in the Cowboy State, in some areas property taxes have doubled since 2014. Relief for Wyoming citizens was a topic of discussion for lawmakers during the 2022 Legislative Session, leading to the funding of the Property Tax Refund Program.
Wright wanted residents of Sheridan County to know about the upcoming deadline to file paperwork to take advantage of this program.

The state legislature needs to address the fact that most areas in Wyoming have seen their property taxes increase from 20-50% and more in the past few years. Many of us have no intention of selling our homes where we have lived for many years. The legislature could have changed the way property taxes are figured based on sale price instead of assessing according to local sales. But instead they punted to fill their coffers and didn’t allow a bill to cap property taxes to see the light of day. Yes, senior citizens, if they qualify, can claim a reduction, but what about the hard working middle class folks who keep our state afloat? They have kids to feed, gasoline the price of gold, and life in general to weather. It’s time our legislature takes a hard look at shrinking our state government even more so that the average family can make it in Wyoming, not just the uber wealthy.

Will I get a notice when it raises? I’m 63 with brain cancer and I can’t remember if I owe anything right now or not?
