Donald Bishop

Funeral Services for Donald Bishop, an 87-year-old Buffalo resident who passed away peacefully on January 13th at the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo, Wyoming, will be held Saturday, January 20th at 2:00 p.m. at the Harness Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with Pastor Stephen Martin officiating.  Interment will be in Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo with military graveside services to immediately follow the funeral. Donations in Don’s memory may be made to the St. Francis Animal Shelter at 109 Flat Iron Drive in Buffalo, Wyoming 82834. Online condolences may be made at www.harnessfuneralhome.com.  

Donald Davis Bishop was born in Buffalo, Wyoming on July 29, 1936, the second of five children born to Charles and Doris (Davis) Bishop. 

He attended Lower Johnson Creek School and graduated from Johnson County High School.  He served in the Navy from 1954 to 1957 as a machinist mate on the USS F.D. Roosevelt aircraft carrier. 

On June 5, 1958, he married Sharon Schmidt in Buffalo. They ranched near Buffalo until moving to Sheridan in 1977. They moved back to the family ranch north of Buffalo in 2011.   

Don enjoyed the company of his family, his cats, dogs, and horses, playing card games, hunting, and watching football games and rodeos. His grandkids will cherish memories of watching him work at brandings, playing cribbage with him, and getting Honda rides to the reservoir to get cattails. 

He is survived by his sons Steve (Carol) Bishop, Gary (Carla) Bishop and daughter Dawn (Daniel) Brown; five grandchildren, Heidi Knight, Tyler (Sarah) Bishop, Adam (Elyssa) Bishop, Erica Brown and Hanna Brown; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings Clarence Bishop, Everett (Judy) Bishop, Rosa (Gary) Cockerill and Gerry Bishop.  Don was preceded in death by Sharon, his wife of 58 years, in 2016.
