WY Army National Guard Considering Vehicle Maintenance Facility In Sheridan

Vehicles stationed at the Wyoming Army National Guard facility in Sheridan may soon no longer have to go to the other side of the Bighorn Mountains for maintenance work.
The Wyoming Army National Guard is considering building a vehicle maintenance facility in Sheridan.
The Guard is taking input regarding the location and the design of the building.
One idea that has been suggested is to build the facility on military land north of Soldier Creek Road.
Wyoming Adjutant General Greg Porter says the current Guard Unit in Northern Wyoming is too spread out and it needs to be reorganized.
“We’re going to consolidate the unit. Right now the unit is split between the city of Sheridan, the city of Powell and the city of Worland. We’re going to bring a new unit over into the basin, that will occupy the Powell and Worland armories and then that will push all of the equipment back over here into Sheridan. Originally that vehicle maintenance facility was going to be in Lovell and it just didn’t make safe sense to then pull all of the equipment back up to the other side of the mountain, to get maintenance done to it.”
General Porter says the Guard is hoping to have a location and building design ready and try to break ground sometime during spring 2023, and have the project finished in 2025.
