Sheriff’s Office asks hunters and recreationalists to report any suspicious activity in the Bighorns

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, many residents and visitors to the Bighorn Mountain area found a welcome escape by camping and enjoying the forested area.

The increase in campers and recreationalists on the mountain may be one reason the Sheriff’s Office experienced a reduction in calls reporting thefts and other incidents over the summer season, according to Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Levi Dominguez.

But as summer recreationalists move out of the Bighorns, the season hunters are preparing to set-up camps and scout their respective hunt areas, some leaving equipment and campers in their respective areas.

With the decreased activity in the Bighorns, individuales may take advantage of the situation. During an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Dominguez asked hunters and others who frequent the Bighorns to report any suspicious activity.

To report suspicious activity, call the Sheridan County Sheriff Dispatch Center at 307-672-2413.
