Ron RichterA number of private businesses in Wyoming along with a growing number of chain stores are starting to make it a requirement for customers to wear facemasks. Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon, at a news conference Wednesday, offered his thoughts on the facemask requirement many businesses are beginning to adopt.
According to the Wyoming Department of Health, as of Wednesday night, there were 1,605 laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, 380 probable cases, and 22 deaths as a result of the disease. There were two confirmed cases in Sheridan County Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases in the County to 27. There have been 8 new cases of COVID-19 in Sheridan County in the past week.

I totally agree Cindy.. Wearing a mask is simply showing respect for your fellow man and it will reduce the number of cases. Making excuses to not wear a mask is very, very selfish.

I agree with the governor. Private business has a constitutional rights to restrict entry to their establishment. Citizens also have the right to “Shop elsewhere.” Likewise, the governor has no authority to issue a state-wide mandate for everyone to wear a mask. In Wyoming we respect the law and understand it’s legal limits. The gov’t cannot and will not dictate how we breath. Wear a mask if you want, be free if you so choose. That is the definition of freedom in America.

I hope everyone considers that until a viable vaccine is produced we consider the “contagability factor”…the “incubation period” and the “sheer invisibility” of covid…unless each and every citizen in our own individual capacity act in a preventative “proactive” mitigative approach to slowing the spread of this “sickness”… we will continue “chasing covid19” like a “fire that can not be put out”… wearing a mask (if you are medically able to wear one) in addition to other safety protocols is but a small individual sacrifice to protect the freedoms we enjoy….it is our patriotic duty to help protect the vulnerable population, the elderly, our veterans, our fellow citizens, our local and state government, our state and nationally elected leaders, our way of life, the very “fabric” of our republic

Thank You Mark!! For an intelligent analysis of a VERY serious situation. I DO NOT understand posts to this forum that continue to say it is an” American Right” to NOT wear a mask and No governor can order them to do so. How can it be an “American Right ” to not wear a mask and INFECT other folks with this deadly virus. Even Dennis Fox, a candidate for the Wyoming State House takes this totally irresponsible stand. I am at a to loss as to how this virus that has killed 140,000 Americans, became a political issue and how it has become an individual right to spread it to more Americans. As you say, it is our Patriotic Duty to protect our fellow Americans from infection, Not claim it is your “American Right” to spread Covid-19.. Come on America, let’s stand together without the SILLY GARBAGE rhetoric and defeat this Virus.

Harriett…thank you so very much for your kind words…as written about the history of the 1918 pandemic face masks were as much as a contentious issue as they are today…contentious for the same reason…many felt that being required to wear masks was an infringement of their rights…back then when a man, woman or child refused to wear face masks during the 1918 pandemic they were referred to as “slackers”…”mask slackers” or “mask scoffers” for those individuals there were fines imposed, “slackers” were prohibited from using public transportation, ticketed and fined…we all have our own opinions…sometimes i think we need to look at problems from different perspectives to achieve the desired results of what is best for “the greater good” of the population
