Aaron PalmerSheridan County’s Commissioners have ratified a Comment Letter concerning Spring Creek Mine’s Mining Plan Modification Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
The letter, addressed to the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement-Western Region (OSMRE), said the commission supports the proposed alternative in the draft EIS, citing the Montana DEQ’s prior approval of the modification.
The letter also pointed out that mining provides quality employment and good paying jobs in rural Montana and Wyoming, which are vital to areas like Sheridan and Big Horn Counties.
The commission closed the letter by saying, “(we) support responsible mining, and the Spring Creek Mine is an example of a mine that operates responsibly, in an environmentally appropriate manner…We urge the OSMRE to adopt the proposed action alternative in its draft EIS.”
