Tongue River Canyon Trail is Now Open
On Thursday, April 23, a large band of rock broke into slabs and fell on the Tongue River Canyon Trail, blocking access and causing significant damage, prompting a temporary closure of the trail. According to the Bighorn National Forest Office, the trail has been reopened, as crews have built a new tread through and around the slide area.
Although the trail is now open, livestock is not recommended at this time due to soft shoulders and a narrow path. Additional improvements to the trail are planned to bring it back to full standard.

Has the trail been improved to take horses up… even if walked up, dismounted. Are there other trailheads that would take us up the canyon and still be on the same side of the river.
