Shane Greet has announced his candidacy for Johnson County Sheriff.

Greet has more than 15 years of law enforcement experience with the Buffalo Police Department and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, he said, “I am running for Sheriff because Johnson County requires well-rounded leadership grounded in honesty, dedication, and integrity. Johnson County has been part of my family heritage for over seven generations, and service is in my DNA, with my father, Tom Greet, serving at the Johnson County Hospital for over 28 years, and I am honored to continue that legacy.”

He launched his professional law enforcement career in 2007 as an Animal Control Officer and then as a Patrol Officer for the Buffalo Police Department.

In 2012, he joined the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office where he served as a Detention Deputy and later as a Patrol Deputy. In 2019, he moved to Kaycee where he served as a Resident Deputy. This allowed him to gain an intimate knowledge of all of Johnson County.

In addition to serving as a Patrol Deputy, he also served as a Field Training Officer (FTO), training other deputies and helping them along their career paths.

He created and implemented evidence collection guidelines and policies for collection, gathering, and retention while serving as an Evidence Technician for the Sheriff’s Office.

As well as serving as a Deputy Sheriff, Greet also served as Deputy Coroner for four years.

In 2024, Greet began serving in the Clerk of District Court Office, rounding out his knowledge base of the criminal justice system with certification as a CORE Court Management Specialist.

Greet also serves as an EMT with the Kaycee Ambulance Service and serves as a member of the Johnson County Library Board.

He has previously served on the Kaycee Advisory Board and the Buffalo Senior Center Board.

He said, “Johnson County is a special place to work, live, and grow, I am ready to lead with integrity and serve our communities well.”
