Sheridan County Sheriff Levi Dominguez and Detention Center Lieutenant Charlie Gibbons announced that through a grant from the Wyoming Association of Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police, (WASCOP) the detention center has initiated the Cowboy State’s first  Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program.

According to Gibbons, in partnership with Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s Addiction Clinic’s behavioral health team, the program’s goal is to reduce recidivism and improve long-term outcomes.

Sheriff Dominguez said after a series of conversations with Lt. Gibbons, the addiction medical professionals at SMH and seeing the same repeat offenders suffering from addiction, the decision was made to think outside of the box.
