Buffalo Council OKs Placing Funding Measure on Ballot
Buffalo’s City Council passed Resolution No. 1502, which approves putting a proposition to impose a 1% Specific Purpose Sales Tax on the 2026 General Election ballot.
Mayor Shane Schrader explained what the specific use of the sales tax would be.
The one percent specific purpose sales tax, if approved by Johnson County voters later this year, will sunset after the roughly $5.7 million dollars needed is raised for the project.
The project, as described in an earlier city council meeting, will replace the water and sewer mains on North Burritt Avenue from Fort Street to Mathers Street.

The tax doesn’t always “sunset”. Sheridan County has had both the Specific and General purpose Excess tax burdens imposed on us for the last 40 years.
Be careful about allowing a tax that you’ve gotten rid of, to return!
