Game and Fish Seeks Public Input on Black Bear Hunts
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will host a public meeting at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, at the Sheridan Regional Office regarding black bear hunting.
According to Game and Fish Public Information Specialist Christina Schmidt, black bear hunting seasons are typically set for three years, using harvest data and other biological information to guide those decisions.

During the meeting, large carnivore biologists and local wildlife managers will present proposed black bear season dates, annual female mortality limits, and other possible adjustments to hunting season structures.
Proposed season changes will be available for review later this month on the department’s website under the “Get Involved” tab.
Public comments will be accepted at the meeting, online, or by mail until Dec. 8. The finalized proposals will be presented to the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission at its January 2026 meeting.

Maybe split the season,,, private land bait and set a quota limit for private land bait. Spot and stalk only on national Forest with its own quota limit. That will upset outfitters but give the general public a better chance.

I live in Dayton,Wy and have a significant rise in bear activity in the town each fall. Which I believe threatens not only humans but also livestock and pets. I think the spring quota can stay the same but the fall quota needs to be adjusted to alleviate this issue.
