Illinois Man Sentenced in District Court for Role in National Theft Scheme
A 35-year-old Illinois man was recently sentenced in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan for his role in a tap to pay credit card theft scheme. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
District Court Judge Darci Phillips accepted the terms of the plea agreement reached between defendant Roy Holmes and the State, and sentenced Holmes to 2 to 3 years in prison for the crime of felony theft for fraudulent credit card purchases at a gas station in Dayton on November 19, 2024. The sentence will run concurrent to an 18-24 month sentence Holmes received in Johnson County for making fraudulent purchases at a gas station in Buffalo, also on November 19 of last year. Holmes was part of a multi-state tap and pay credit card theft scheme that included multiple co-defendants that engaged in similar crimes throughout the country.
Holmes was also ordered by Judge Phillips to pay $385 in restitution jointly and severally to Corner Grocery in Dayton and $250 in court costs and assessments. Holmes was also given 190 days credit of time served for presentence confinement.

Add to his sentence, deportation to east Chicago. No future access to Wyoming. We do not need his kind here.
