cvannoySCSD#1 Superintendent Dr. Jeff Jones talked Tuesday night in an interview about the fires that are still creating some problems with his schools, Tongue River High School in Dayton, and the Big Horn Schools.
The fire started on Friday, September 27, approximately six miles northwest of Dayton.
He said they in the district were very concerned with the residents in and around Dayton, as well as at the high school. One area that seemed to be not willing to quit was in one canyon just above the high school. He said he watched the fire every morning driving to work.
He that said so far, they haven’t had to close the Big Horn School, and he and the staff stay in touch with the emergency management people on a daily basis. The Big Horn campus is far enough away from the mountain, unlike Dayton, where the fire came very close.

He said that currently the Big Horn Campus is not on any alert, but the surrounding areas are impacted and that it has been a stressful time. He added, “I’m thankful for the firefighters and for everyone pulling together.”
