The annual Clearmont Day Celebration on Saturday, June 28, drew a large crowd. There was the bounce house for the youngsters, several vendors, a remote control plane, a free lunch, and demonstration of the ‘fire blankets’ by the Clearmont Volunteer Fire Department.

Assistant Fire Chief Fritz Bates, who has been with the Clearmont Fire Department for over 20 years, talked about what the fire blankets are.

Fire chief Josh McKinley added that the town of Clearmont pays them for fire protection, and they wanted to use the money to give back to the community, and they purchased the fire blankets for residents.

The Civil Air Patrol had a booth at Clearmont Day, and Major Bruce Hertelendy talked about some of what they do in Sheridan County.

Cadet Airman Carvalho explained some of what the cadets do.

Carvalho lives near Clearmont and attends Clearmont School. He plans to go into the U.S. Airforce after high school.

Hertelendy said that the cadets can learn how to fly with a simulator and go up into a plane with a certified pilot and when they have the enough experience they learn to fly, both in gliders and in powered aircraft.

Sheridan County Emergency Management Agency had a booth, and Jesse Ludikhuize was there with ‘Scout’ the bomb sniffing dog.

There were vintage cars for people to enjoy, and tours of the Clearmont Historical Center and Museum, where there is an exhibit dinosaur bones and other fossils from Dave Nicolarsen, curator of the Natural History Museum of Wyoming, formerly the Museum of Discovery at Sheridan College.

Leland “Bud” Sanders was on hand to sign the newest book from the Clearmont Historical Group, “A History of Irrigation in the Lower Clear Creek Valley,” but that will be addressed in another story.

Later in the evening there was music in the park for all to enjoy.
