Ron RichterThe third annual Governor’s Mental Health Summit is scheduled to take place Wednesday, October 2 at Events at the M in Casper. The free, in-person event hosted by Governor Mark Gordon begins at 7:30 am and will feature discussions and workshops focusing on mental health awareness and support. At a proclamation signing recognizing September as Suicide Prevention Month, Governor Gordon emphasized the continuing work to advance mental health reform that is occurring statewide.
Gordon said since the first mental health summit, progress has been made in raising awareness of the issue and how mental health challenges impact communities throughout Wyoming. Gordon added that more work needs to be done and the summit provides an opportunity to come together and share the important work that’s taking place.
The Governor’s WY We Care initiative, announced earlier this year, is a collaborative effort that includes all three branches of state government, local community teams, and private sector providers. The initiative aims to reduce Wyoming’s suicide rate, improve access to behavioral health services, and strengthen the state’s behavioral healthcare workforce. Free tickets for the summit are limited and can be obtained here.
