At their regular meeting in Kaycee this week, the board of trustees for Johnson County School District #1 were updated on the status of various projects at the district’s school buildings and latest timelines for them.

Facilities Director John Zink said he had applied for State Capital Security funds for Visitor Management Systems at Kaycee School, Buffalo High School, Cloud Peak Elementary, Meadowlark Elementary, and Clear Creek Middle School, which has been approved.

New West High School will not be getting the system because it did not exist in 2015 when the security assessment was done.

JCSD1 was awarded State Capital Security funds back in 2015 after the state did an assessment of all school districts in the state.

Zink said the contract has been signed for replacement of the AHU-1 system at Meadowlark, with work scheduled for the summer of 2023.

Y Environmental was scheduled to perform asbestos testing in the roof this week, weather permitting.

He has been working with Wyoming Wood Floors and Principal Mader finalizing graphics for the gym floor at BHS. Work will begin May 31.

Kaycee, CPES and CCMS have been scheduled for gym floors to be refinished in early June, with two weeks required for curing of the floors.

Work on the BHS gym floor will begin after the others are completed.

Rapid Fire Protection has installed the new dry sprinkler heads in the six rooms where the wet heads were removed at Kaycee School.

The fire inspector has inspected them and has approved the work and has ended the fire watch at the school.

The grounds crews have been painting the athletic fields at BHS and CCMS.

They are looking at the Kaycee practice field to find a plan to improve grass growth, and are looking at other fields in the district to plan for de-thatching, aerating, and top dressing.
