Fire crews that had been battling 2 wildland fires on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation in Montana say they are satisfied with the containment level that they have established and are turning efforts over to local crews.

As of 8am Saturday, August 21st, the Richard Spring fire had burned more than 171,000 acres of land and is 100% contained.

Nearby the Lame Deer fire had burned more than 5,400 acres and is 95% contained.

Fire crews from the Bureau of Indian Affairs have taken over fire fighting efforts in that area.

The last 2 days of fighting efforts were aided by nearly 1 inch of precipitation, low temperatures and high humidity in the area.

Just because a fire is fully contained, doesn’t mean it’s out, however fire crews are confident that it will not cross any fire lines that have been established.
