Funeral services for John Washut, 66-year-old lifetime Johnson County resident who passed away suddenly at his home on Lake DeSmet North of Buffalo will be held Saturday, September 12th at 10:00 a.m. at the New Life Assembly Church in Buffalo with Pastor Felicito Vasquez officiating. Donations in John’s memory may be made to the Iglesia Roca de Salvacion Church in Sheridan in care of the Harness Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo. John Charles Washut was born on January 27, 1954, in Buffalo, Wyoming to Harry and Lois Washut. He grew up and went to school in Buffalo and graduated from Johnson County High School with the class of 1972. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and was an instructor at the Navy’s National Energy Laboratory (I.N.E.L.) in Idaho. John developed diabetes and received a medical discharge in 1974. He was married on August 16th, 1974 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Robin Clark and they made their home in Idaho until John was discharged. They then moved to Buffalo where he was a mechanic and owned a towing service. John and Robin were divorced in 1984 and John continued living in Buffalo until his death.
John’s faith was foremost in his life. He was an avid fisherman and artificer who loved inventing. His passion was helping people, whether he knew them or not. His motto was “If I can’t fix it, it ain’t broke”. He is survived by one son Samuel Washut of Kennewick, Washington; two brothers, Tim Washut and his wife Vicki of Glendale, Arizona, and Harry Washut and his wife Connie of Buffalo; and four sisters, Judy Markwell, and her husband Don of Decatur, Illinois, Roberta Vaselin and her husband John of Buffalo, Teresa Heck and her husband Tom of Clear Lake, Minnesota, and Linda Washut and her partner Kathy Kelkenberg of Fountain Hills, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Rick.
