Sheep numbers up ‘quite a bit’ this year

Sheep Superintendent Haley Timm said the number of sheep competing in this year’s Sheridan County Fair was up quite a bit from last year – 65 market sheep and five or six animals in the breeding category.

In a change from past years, the sheep shows were held Friday afternoon. Timm said normally the sheep show would be on Saturday morning after the beef show.

Among participants in the sheep show was Wynn West who, at 8 years old, was experiencing her first year as a 4-H member. West said the COVID-19 pandemic has made the year a little hard, but she’s still enjoyed the fair a lot. She said it’s a busy time for her.

Timm said part of the appeal of sheep is their disposition. They’re usually a lot tamer and quieter for the younger children, she said, plus they tend to have pretty good personalities and they’re pretty easy to work with.
