Frederick “Fred” Kenneth Cunningham, 78, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, in the comfort of his home in Sheridan, Wyoming.  He left this world surrounded by family and friends who loved him deeply, held by the same people he spent his life protecting, supporting, and laughing with.

Born in Powell, Wyoming to Kenneth Cunningham and Alice Hoffman on November 23rd, 1947. Fred grew into the kind of man who embodied strength, loyalty, and hard work. He proudly served as a Paratrooper, carrying that discipline, courage, and grit with him long after his military service ended. After returning home, he became a welder, mastering a trade that matched his determination and skill.  To everyone who knew him, Fred was the hardest working man around–someone who didn’t shy away from effort, responsibility, or doing things the right way.

One of his greatest accomplishments was the family compound he built with his own hands. Every board, every beam, and every detail reflected his craftsmanship, his pride, and his love for the people who lived there. It stands today as a lasting symbol of the dedication and life he created.

Fred enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life rich: laughing with family, sharing stories, and relaxing with a cold one after a long day. To most, he was simply Fred—strong, steady dependable, but to the people closest to him, he was “Papa,” a name filled with warmth, affection, and the bond he shared with his family.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Son Tosh, Daughters Christina and Amanda, and brother Gene Cunningham.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Cunningham, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage, and a family who will forever carry his lessons, his humor, and his spirit with them. Though his passing leaves a deep ache, his legacy lives on in the land he built, the family he raised, and the countless memories shared by this who knew him.

Fred will be missed beyond measure and remembered forever.

A Memorial Service is at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Grace Anglican Church with Pastor Scott Lee officiating. Online condolences may be made to www.sheridanfuneral.com. Arrangements are under the care of Sheridan Funeral Home.
