Joe Sarno

Funeral services for Joe Sarno, 87-year-old Buffalo resident who passed away at his home in Buffalo will be held Thursday, September 10^th at 10:00 a.m. at the Harness Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with Father Bryce Lungren officiating. Interment will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with military graveside honors to immediately follow the funeral. A reception and light lunch will be held at the American Legion Hall in Buffalo following the graveside service. Joseph Ronald Sarno was born on May 9, 1939, in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Jeremiah and Lillian Sarno.  He grew up and went to school in Fairfield, Connecticut and attended Rodger Ludlowe High School. After high school, in 1956 he joined the U.S. Marines and served in the South Pacific. He was discharged from the Marines and joined the U.S. Army in 1960, serving during the Vietnam War.  He received an honorable discharge from the Army as a Master Sgt in 1964.  He then joined the US Army Reserves and served until his 20^th year in the military.

Joe was married in 1964 in El Paso, Texas to Dagmar Schrader and they made their home in El Paso while Joe was in the Army.  In 1974 Joe and Dagmar settled in Southport, Connecticut. Joe owned and operated Sarno’s Tree Service in Connecticut which he sold and in 1980.  They then moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming where he was the head of maintenance for an Orthopedic Clinic. Joe and Dagmar were divorced in 1984 and Joe continued to live in Jackson Hole. Joe moved to Buffalo in 2005 where he lived until his death.

Joe was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting and spending time in the mountains. He is survived by one brother George Sarno and his wife Mizelle and their son Austin of Milton, Georgia; one sister Valerie Bray in Uncasville, Connecticut, two nieces, Melissa and Allison and another nephew Eric.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter Tracy.
