Graveside funeral services for Mary Leath, 97-year-old former Buffalo resident who passed away in the Sheridan Memorial Hospital late Thursday evening, will be held Tuesday, December 17th at 10:00 a.m. in Willow Grove Cemetery with Pastor Paul Gilbert officiating. Mary Laurina Leath was born on October 27, 1927, in Arvada, Wyoming to Charles W. “Shorty” and Augusta Laurina “Gusty” Okeson Severance. She grew up and went to school in Arvada and graduated from Arvada High School with a class of 3 in 1945.
After high school, she worked one year at the Welfare Office in Sheridan. In 1946, she married James Junior “Bud” Enochs, they lived on the Enochs Ranch on Crazy Woman. They had two children, Jim Enochs and Erma Betz. In 1960, they moved to Buffalo, Wyoming. After Bud’s passing, she married Allen Leath, later divorcing. Mary worked at the Buffalo Bulletin Office supply store, babysat, did ironing, gardening, canning and cooking, especially homemade buns. She watched General Hospital, Wyoming Cowboys, Denver Broncos, and of course the Nebraska Cornhusker football games. She lived in Buffalo until moving to Sheridan in April 2024. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bud and Allen, her brothers Charlie and Jesse, her sisters Agnes Turner and Cecilia Oneyear, grandson Robbie Francis. She is survived by her children, Jim Enochs, Sheridan, Erma Betz, Sheridan, one granddaughter, Terri Leis, Redmond, Oregon, two great-grandchildren, Christopher (Heather) Leis, Oregon, Lacie (John) Grisson, Missouri, seven great-great-grandchildren and nieces.
