John Siebert
Former long-time Sheridan resident John E. Siebert passed away March 12 in Billings, MT. He was born December 16, 1931 in Livingston, Montana to Eva Cameron and Fred Siebert.
John grew up in Livingston. At an early age John and his older brother Fred would ride the train to Cleveland, Minnesota and spend summers at their grandparent’s farm. Some of the best stories he told would start with the trouble he and his cousins would get into on the farm. Somehow most would involve firecrackers.
He graduated from Billings Business College in 1951 and was hired by Peter Kiewit Construction Company as office manager working in various towns in Montana, North and South Dakota and Wyoming. In 1955 while working on the Air Base in Minot, North Dakota he met Deloris Leithold. They were married March 24, 1956. Daughters Mitzi and Colleen were born shortly afterwards. In 1966 John moved his young family to Sheridan where he was promoted to District Manager. He retired from Peter Kiewit after 34 years.
He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church serving many years on the church council and could always be found taking the money at the annual Lutefisk Dinner wearing a Viking helmet complete with horns and braids. John enjoyed gardening, barbequing, especially whole turkeys, and traveling with Deloris and the Wyoming Wayfarers across the United States, Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, New Zealand and many countries in Europe.
In October 2013 John and Deloris moved to Mission Ridge Retirement Village in Billings, Montana.
Proceeding him in death were his parents, bother Fred, sisters Ila Dahlton and Catherine Siebert, and a nephew. He is survived by his wife, Deloris, Billings, MT; daughters Mitzi (Joel Paulsen) Siebert of Salt Lake City, and Colleen (David) Hornay of Sheridan; granddaughters Alyssa (Travis) Yeik of Bozeman, Montana, and Tennille (Quyen) Tong of Fort Worth, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Services will be held at a later date at King Of Glory Lutheran Church, 4125 Grand Ave, Billings, MT 59102. Smith Funeral Chapels has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be written at www.smithfuneralchapels.com.
Memorials may be made to King Of Glory Lutheran Church; Trinity Lutheran Church, 135 Crescent Drive, Sheridan Wyoming; or St. John’s Lutheran Ministries, 3940 Rimrock Rd, Billings, MT 59102.
