The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has announced a draft plan to strengthen greater sage-grouse conservation and management on public lands.

According to the BLM, this document has been informed by the best-available science and input from local, state, federal, and Tribal partners. The Bureau reports this draft plan is built on decades of partnership, research, and on-the-ground knowledge and experience in maintaining, protecting and restoring healthy sagebrush habitats.

Chair of the Johnson County Board of Commissioners and the President of the Wyoming County Commissioners Association, Bill Novotny, made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse recommending the public review the document and leave comments for the BLM, feeling the proposals are another overreach by Washington D.C.

The proposals can be found by clicking here. According to the BLM, the draft environmental impact statement and plan amendments opened for public comment on March 15, 2024. That comment period will end on June 13, 2024.

Novotny feels many of these proposals are developed by radicals who have failed to take the work of protecting greater sage grouse by the Wyoming Game and Fish and their partners into consideration.
