Ron RichterA Sheridan man changed his plea on a number of drug possession charges at a hearing Thursday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan. 40-year-old Jedediah Franks pleaded guilty to four counts of possession of a controlled substance for being in possession of methamphetamine and marijuana. The plea agreement reached between the State and the defendant recommends 2 to 5 years in prison for the first file, which contains two charges, and 3 to 5 years in prison for the two charges contained in the second file. The prosecution is recommending that the prison sentences be suspended in lieu of a split sentence of time served and a total of four years of supervised probation.
The drug possession charges were prosecuted as felonies because Franks has three prior convictions for drug possession on his record. District Court Judge Darci Phillips ordered that a presentence investigation be conducted and scheduled the sentencing for May 4 at 9 am. Franks’ bond was revoked and he was remanded to the custody of the Sheridan County Detention Center until he’s sentenced.
