A Sheridan man and former Colorado sheriff’s deputy will be spending time behind bars after admitting to committing a sex crime.
Forty-one year old Christopher Haenel was sentenced in US District Court to serve 41 months in prison followed by 5 years of supervised release, after he pleaded guilty to accessing with intent to view child pornography.
A US Attorney says Haenel came to the attention of law enforcement when Kik, which is a social media platform, reported that he was using it to share images.
This case was investigated by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Forces in both the Homeland Security Investigations and the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.
Haenel has also been ordered to pay more than $8,000 in fines.
He is listed as having retired from the Adams County, Colorado Sheriff’s Office, which is located east of Denver.
