If the proposed land swap between the Northern Wyoming Community College District and the Wyoming Army National Guard goes through, the latter will have to use the land for some time.
The Guard is negotiating with the District to acquire 21 acres of land on the other side of I-90 from Sheridan College, to build a new vehicle maintenance facility.
According to District President Doctor Walter Tribley, regardless of wherever the building goes, the Guard needs to make sure the building serves its purpose from the get-go, because once it’s done, it will be some time before changes to the building can be made.
“A building that is built with federal funds and/or matching state funds will be on the register for 25 years before it is really going to be competitive to compete for any additional funds to remodel that or to replace that building.”
Doctor Tribley adds the Guard would like to get the deal finalized by May 1st, meaning the District Board of Trustees would have to call a special meeting between now and then to discuss the issue.
The Guard says it anticipates breaking ground on the building around this time next year, and have everything finished in 2025.
