Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey Team Sweep 2-Game Series At Home Vs. Bozeman Ahead Of Off Week
Friday night, the Hawks took down the Bozeman Icedogs with a dominant 6-2 win.
The Hawks were in control from start to finish in Friday’s contest, outshooting the Icedogs 44-26 in the game.
Jeff Slivon and Elijah Farris put the points in their backpacks, as Silvon recorded a four-point night – one goal and three assists – while Farris potted two goals.
The win got Sheridan back on track after dropping three of its last four contests, and kept them still sitting tops in the Frontier Division.
Bozeman fall to fifth place with the loss, as they were jumped by Badlands for fourth place with its win over Great Falls.
Sheridan got the scoring started just under seven minutes in off the stick of Caden Gleason (seventh).
Farris followed up Gleason with his first of the night and 14th of the year with just under four minutes left to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Slivon assisted on both goals.
The Icedogs put a temporary stop to Sheridan’s offense with a goal of their own to cut the deficit in half at 2-1, but Slivon had an answer six minutes later, potting his 18th of the year to restore Sheridan’s two-goal lead.
Vincent Leaf (26th) got in on the goal-scoring just over two minutes after Slivon via the power play to extend the Hawks’ lead to 4-1.
The score stayed that way at the second-period buzzer.
Ernie Allen (fourth) put any dreams of a Bozeman comeback to bed with a short-handed goal just under a minute into the third period to extend the lead to 5-1.
Farris added salt to the wound with his second of the night and 15th of the season just two minutes later.
The visiting team managed a feel-good goal for Bozeman with 14 minutes left, but that was all the Icedogs could muster for the rest of the game to finalize the 6-2 score.
Otto Reinhart was in net for the Hawks win with a solid 24 saves on 26 shots for a 0.92 saves average.
Saturday night the Hawks treated their guests to more of the same hospitality and cruised to a weekend series sweep taking down the Bozeman Icedogs with a 5-0 shutout win.
Hawks goaltender Wyatt Knott was outstanding in Saturday’s contest, turning away all 38 shots he faced.
Knott’s save percentage jumps to an eye-popping .936% in 12 games.
The shutout was his second of the season.
New addition to the roster Easton Langemo led the way on the scoresheet for Sheridan, putting up two goals in the game.
Bozeman dropped its second straight game and fell four points behind Badlands for fourth place in the Frontier Division.
The teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first period despite Sheridan nearly doubling up Bozeman in the shots department at 15-8.
Sheridan’s offense came alive in the second period, getting goals from Langemo (27th), Caden Gleason (eighth), Daniel Shelden (third) and Elijah White (fifth).
Bozeman had no answer for the high-flying Hawks offense in the period, sending the teams to the break with Sheridan ahead 4-0.
The offense cooled off in the third period, but the damage was already done.
Langemo added his second goal of the night and 28th of the season via the power play to ice the 5-0 series-clinching win for Sheridan.
Sheridan now sits comfortably at the top of the Frontier Division with 53 points – six points ahead of second-place Helena.
The Hawks have a bye weekend coming up and then travel to Helena to continue the fight for playoff standings.
The team returns home February 6 to take on the Gillette Wild and the Yellowstone Quake on the 7th.
