Sheridan HS Soccer: The Sheridan Girls Soccer team will play in their home opener today vs. Cheyenne Central beginning at 6pm.
This game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, but because Central has a scheduling conflict with prom, the game was moved to today.
The way the schedule was arranged for the Lady Broncs, the next 6 games are all at home and against every 4A East Conference opponent.
After that, they’ll play their last 4 regular season games on the road.
When the girls last played nearly 2 weeks ago against Laramie, they got a bit of a reality check, but Lady Broncs Head Coach Josh Dube says they’ve been able to identify what went wrong and are eager to show what corrections they’ve made.
Tomorrow’s home game vs. Cheyenne East will play as scheduled.
As for the Sheridan boys, they will play tomorrow at Cheyenne East, and on Saturday at Cheyenne Central.
Sheridan County HS Track and Field: Some of the Sheridan County teams have rearranged their schedules this week, in order to get competition in ahead of the approaching weather system.
Sheridan is still scheduled to go to Spearfish, South Dakota tomorrow.
Big Horn will compete tomorrow at Kelly Walsh and will not go to Worland on Saturday.
Tongue River and Arvada-Clearmont will go to Glenrock tomorrow.
TR was originally scheduled to go to Greybull on Saturday, but now that plan will not happen.
Three Sheridan County HS Winter Sports Coaches Named Coach Of The Year: The Winter Sports season has been over for almost 1 month now, and a few more postseason accolades were recently announced.
Sheridan Girls Basketball Coach Ryan Sullivan and Indoor Track and Field Coach Taylor Kelting, as well as Tongue River Girls Basketball Coach Amanda Cummins have been named Coaches of the Year in their respective sport, class and gender, by the Wyoming Coaches Association.
Sullivan led the Lady Broncs to their first 4A Girls State Title since 2007.
Kelting coached the Sheridan Boys Indoor Track and Field team to its 5th 4A State Title in 6 years, while Cummins led the TR girls basketball team to their first 2A State Title in 10 years.
Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers season opening home double-header scheduled for Saturday, will instead be played tomorrow, because just like track and field, there are concerns regarding the weather.
First pitch is scheduled for 5pm.
Pitcher Avon Barney says while Powell is a worthy opponent to start the season against, the Troopers will be using games like these to figure things out, knock off the rust, and give the newcomers some experience as well.
Powell is the defending A-League State Champs.
Sheridan Mavericks LaCrosse: Another sport will also start its season this weekend.
The Sheridan Mavericks boys and girls lacrosse teams play in the Montana High School Lacrosse Association Division 2.
The boys are in their 3rd year of existence and will play 2 games on Saturday at Great Falls.
Head Coach JR Wright says both he and the team have high expectations this year, because not only did the team lose very little to graduation, they have more players coming on board.
Last year the Mavericks placed 6th at the state tournament.
The Lady Mavericks are in their 2nd year of existence and will play 2 games on Saturday at Helena.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies were swept on the road at the Chicago Cubs, losing yesterday 9-8.
The Rocks were down 8-2 at one point, then rallied to tie the game, but the Cubs were able to push 1 run across in the bottom of the 8th to get the win.
Colorado is now 1-6 on the season.
The team is off today and will play their home opener tomorrow vs. Tampa Bay.
