Ryan Schmidt, a cherished soul known for his unwavering love for the great outdoors, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, in Dayton, Wyoming, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 13, 1978, in Jordan, Montana, Ryan’s zest for life and infectious smile brightened the lives of all who knew him.

Growing up under the big skies of Montana and Wyoming, Ryan attended Sheridan High School, graduating with the class of 1997. It was there that he formed lifelong friendships and developed the values that would guide him throughout his life.

Ryan was deeply loved by his mother, Nancy Hoff, and father, William Schmidt Sr., alongside his stepmother, Peggy Schmidt. He had one daughter, Lexis Schmidt, who he loved dearly. His brother, William Schmidt Jr., and sister-in-law, Abby Schmidt, shared numerous memories with him, as did his nephews, CJ and Eli Schmidt. His sister, Sarah Ray, her husband, David Ray, and their daughters, Maggie and Taylor Ray, will fondly remember him and all the times they had together. He was also fortunate to have a best friend, Amanda Freeman, who stood by his side until the end.

Ryan’s passion for the outdoors was unparalleled. He was happiest with a fishing pole in hand or out in the woods during hunting season. The outdoors was his second home, and he cherished every moment he was able to be outside.

Ryan’s journey on earth may have come to an end, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and his countless friends. His laughter and his unwavering spirit will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. A celebration of life will be planned for the summer of 2026.
