Science Kids to Open Registration for Summer Classes
Science Kids will host a series of outdoor science classes for youth in Sheridan this summer, offering hands-on learning experiences focused on nature, wildlife and environmental science.
According to Executive Director Dr. Julie Rieder, registration for the nonprofit program opens at 7 a.m. Wednesday, April 1 at science-kids.org, with classes designed for students ages 6–14 and limited to 12 students per class to maintain small group learning. Two-day classes cost $85 and four-day classes cost $130, and scholarships are available to help cover costs.
The program encourages students to explore the outdoors while learning scientific skills through themed sessions. Courses for ages 6–8 include topics such as Rock and Rain, Bird Bonanza, Hands-on Nature, Precious Plants and Powerful Pollinators, Wings and Scales and Earth Explorers. Classes for ages 9–11 include Nature in Focus, Hidden Microworlds, Bug Out, Science of Fly Fishing, Phenomenal Physics and Forensics in the Field. Older students ages 12–14 can participate in sessions such as Measurement Mayhem, Advanced Insect Collecting, Solar Science and World of Nature Journaling.
According to Dr. Rieder, the nonprofit was created by Sheridan residents who want to connect young people with science through outdoor exploration. Classes take place in Sheridan throughout the summer, and families can register or apply for scholarships online.
