The process for upgrading the parking lot at the Hub on Smith began several years ago. City Engineer Thomas Morneau says that a report completed in the fall of 2023 indicated the Hub’s parking lot is in need of improvement.

In February of this year, the City Council approved a resolution to apply for a Mineral Royalty Grant in the amount of $1-million for the Hub’s parking lot project. Morneau said that the grant application was denied. The Council Monday night at their business meeting approved a resolution authorizing submission of a Community Development Block Grant for the project in the amount of $1.277 million.

How about asking for donations? Maybe hold a bake sale or raffle. Bingo nite w/ all the $ going towards the lot.
Hold an auction. Pass the hat. Donation buckets around town.
There are literally dozens of voluntary ways to raise money.
And asking people is so much nicer than forcing tax money from our pockets.
It’s the way America worked for the first 200 yrs… before we got lazy and just demanded tax money.

When gov’t is spending “your” money, cost over-runs are always baked in.
Just like the $3 million Brooks St. Boondoggle an Flower-pot.
We have high-taxing, big gov’t liberals, masquerading as Republicans, in local gov’t.
We need to clean house and elect a majority of fiscally conservative “Real” Republicans next year.
