Sheridan/Johnson County Unemployment Numbers Increase In May 2025

Wyoming’s unemployment rate did not change from April to May, but the North-Central part of the state saw a bit of change in the wrong direction.

The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services says the statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held steady at 3.3%.

The rate was at 3.1% in May of last year.

The US Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for May was at 4.2%, which is unchanged since March, and was at 4.0% in May 2024.

Sheridan County’s unemployment rate increased from 2.9% in April to 3.2% in May, while Johnson County increased from 2.2% to 2.6%.

The latter percentage is tied with Albany and Crook Counties, for the lowest rate in the state.

The Department says the monthly increases for Sheridan and Johnson Counties, as well as increases in a few other counties, is considered unusual for this time of year.

Sheridan County was at 2.8% in May 2024, while Johnson County was at 2.7%.

The highest unemployment rate in Wyoming for May 2025 was in Big Horn County at 3.9%.

Non-farm employment in the Cowboy State increased by 2,300 jobs from May of last year to May of this year.
