On Monday, April 21, Scott Stults, SCSD#2 Superintendent, announced that Traci Turk, Sheridan County School District No. 2 Special Education Director, was named the 2025 Wyoming Special Education Director of the Year this spring at the Wyoming Association of Special Education Administrators (WASEA) Conference.

Nominations for Wyoming’s Special Education Director of the Year are made and voted on in the fall by members consisting of special education administrators from across the state. Nominations and selection of the award are based on leadership skills, knowledge of special education law, policies and procedures, and positive contributions to the education of Wyoming’s students with disabilities.

Superintendent Stults commented, “Traci Turk is an exceptional advocate for children. Her leadership in our Special Education Department continues to lead to improved outcomes for students. Traci possesses a comprehensive understanding of student assessment and evaluation, specially designed instruction, and strategic planning. This knowledge works in tandem with her empathy and compassion, willingness to actively listen, and her ability to effectively communicate, making her an incredible asset to our district. This recognition is very well deserved and we thank Mrs. Turk for her contributions to the education of Wyoming’s youth.”

As an association, WASEA works to improve special education services and advocate for students with disabilities. WASEA is a key stakeholder in the state’s special education system, ensuring that students receive appropriate services.

Turk will be recognized at SCSD2’s May Board of Trustees meeting on May 5 at 6 pm.
