At the Monday, July 14, Sheridan County School District #2 Board of Trustees meeting, sports teams and coaches were recognized.

Assistant track coach Chuck Walters, talked about the state championship boys outdoor track team in the absence of Coach Taylor Kelting, who could not attend the meeting.

Several of the track team members came to the meeting to be recognized. He added that the girls team won fourth place, which was ‘a nice surprise’ as they don’t have the numbers on the team that they would like, but the girls put in a lot of effort. Both teams were regional champions for two years in a row.

Kasey Garnhart, activities director, talked about Coach Taylor Kelting being named WAC Spring 2025 4A boys Outdoor Track Coach of the Year.

Garnhart was joined by Head Soccer Coach Wade Kinsey in recognizing Alex Lassle as WAC Spring 2025 Boys Soccer Assistant Coach of the Year.

In his superintendent’s report, Scott Stults said that several schools in the district have qualified for free breakfast and lunch though The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which helps school districts in low-income areas.

Policy CKA, the Concealed Firearms policy, was discussed by the board, and Stults said around 20 people have signed up for the training.

Troy Decker, Facilities Director, reported on several projects that are currently underway at the schools, including the new playground at Story Elementary School, which is ready for fall.

The meeting was recessed and a public hearing on the 2025-2026 Proposed Budget was opened. Brandon Finney, Business Manager, presented a slide show on the 2025-2026 Budget and discussion was held by the board. Trustee Shelta Rambur questioned why the budget is increasing each year while the student numbers are decreasing. She proposed four amendments to the budget, but the board did not vote to accept them.

Other items discussed were bus routes and the approval of the SHS woodshop dust collector design.
