On Tuesday, Oct. 22, members of the Clearmont Historical Group, President Robert Prusak, Sandy Hirz and Fran Felz, attended a meeting at the Sheridan County Community Foundation.

This was the first meeting that SCCF held, and the Foundation handed out $500 checks to several non-profit organizations including the Clearmont Historical Group.

“The goal of the SCCF is to foster giving and increased community involvement of the non-profits and hopefully the money can be a boost to those folks like ourselves operating in Sheridan County,” Prusak said. “The principal speakers were Mark Kinner and Jay McGinnis. They have a very active board comprised of many individuals from the surrounding area.  We will be using this money to buy new shelves for the Center’s basement after the floor is complete.”

According to the SCCF website, their mission is to support and strengthen the Sheridan community through charitable giving and philanthropic education.

Mark Kinner, Board President, said the Foundation is designed to be owned by all the people in the community, and the foundation part is that this can be foundational for our community. People can have success here and want to leave something for the future.

He said the very first grants went to worthy non-profits.

He added that they had been around for about a year, getting everything set up. He also talked about some future plans for the Foundation.

According to their website, they exist to carry on Sheridan’s legacy of giving back, and at SCCF everyone’s ability to give is highly valued and in fact necessary to their success.
